THE team from Tavistock won the Eddystone Challenge for the second year running last weekend.
With new coxswain Nick Lovering at the helm the team of four rowers completed the 25 mile marathon — beating six other teams.
Tony Lovering, Paul German, Dave Parr and John Boston finished the course in record time — taking nearly two hours off last year's first attempt record.
The day did not go without its problems though. One of the rescue support craft, a naval whaler from the Britannia Naval College, fell foul of the notorious rocks off the Eddystone reef adjacent to the lighthouse. The crew of the 45ft vessel had to be rescued. This stretched the support craft for the race to a minimum with one casualty with serious head unjuries being taken to Derriford Hospital by helicopter.
