Wadebridge Town 0

BERE Alston rounded off their first season in this league with an emphatic demolition of a resolute Wadebridge side that saw them climb to fourth place in the league, courtesy of a fine run of eight wins, four draws and just one defeat in their last 13 games.

In the early stage of this game Bere started poorly. Were it not for a superb save from Craig Howells and a goal line clearance by Mark Claridge, Wadebridge could have been two up inside the first ten minutes.

Bere began to get their passing game together and after Dan Pethick and Zac Beesley had gone close, they took the lead when Mike Curtis latched onto a Dan Pethick pass before calmly lobbing the ball over the Wadebridge keeper.

Within five minutes it was 2-0, when, after good work down the right between Wheeler and Zac Beesley. Wheeler found Dan Pethick free on the right edge of the Wadebridge penalty area and he blasted the ball into the top corner.

Bere should have had a third going into the break, but Beesley's fine header from a Mark Claridge cross was ruled out for offside.

Beesley was not to outdone, and shortly after the restart following an innocuous handball, he rammed home the penalty to make it 3-0.

The remainder of the second half saw Bere playing some of their best football of the season and further goals were added with a second for Pethick and substitute Darren Smalley making it 5-0 in the closing stages.

Manager Kevin Taylor paid tribute to his players for their great run of form in the second half of the season — testament to their hard work abd commitment.
