TAVISTOCK Swimming Club on Saturday took part in the Devon County Inter-Club Championships at Central Park, Plymouth.

The team, slightly depleted, finished a creditable ninth out of the 18 clubs taking part. It was an exciting competition with enthusiastic encouragement from the spectators. Chief coach Margaret Gardner said she was delighted with the magnificent effort of all the swimmers who competed.

New club records were achieved by Emma Bennet in the 11years 50m freestyle and Matthew Henry in the 10 years 50m freestyle.

Personal best times were achieved by Emma Bennett (1), Rosie Yull (2), Amy McGowan (2), Eve Hellewell (2), Katherine Chalmers (1), Samantha Gardner (3), Matthew Henry (1), Christopher Ralph (2), Matthew Gould (2), Ian Pownall (1) and James Lake (1). Eve Hellewell and James Lake also made the new Western Counties qualifying times.Other team members were Caroline Ball, Joshua Lake, Jessica Barnes, Peter Freedman, Jessica Wilson, Philippa Smith, Nick Jones.
