A 41-YEAR-old Tavistock man was killed after his car was in collision with a tanker near Callington on Monday morning. It is believed Andrew Grindell was on his way to work at Saltash Community School when the accident occurred on the A390 at 7.30am. Tributes have been paid to Mr Grindell, a father-of-two, who was in the Royal Navy for 12 years before he worked in education. Originally from Hull, he taught in Bracknell and then joined Saltash Community School in 1992 where he was a physics teacher. A statement released by police on behalf of Mr Grindell?s parents said: ?Our only and beloved son will be missed by all that knew him. He leaves two lovely boys Benjamin and Samuel.? The accident, involving a Vauxhall Vectra and road cleaning lorry, occurred a mile from Callington and the road was closed until late afternoon. The tanker driver was uninjured. Police are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash. A spokesman for the police said there was a possibility that other vehicles may have overtaken prior to the accident. The car had to be retrieved from the bottom of a small bank and highways personnel were called to deal with diesel leaking from the lorry. Anyone with information is being asked to call 08452 777444 quoting log number 118 130206.
