Despite increasing the field this year to 800 places the Tavy 7 road race, organised by Tavistock Athletic Club, has once again sold out so organisers have increased the entries by 100 places to try and meet demand.

'The response this year has been fantastic,' said Allan Herdman, club chair and 2009 race director.

The event's main sponsors this year are Mansbridge & Balment, Active Co, Abbey Garden Machinery, Brooks Running and new supporters for 2009 RM Builders & Contractors.

The race takes place on Sunday — all proceeds are going to the track fund which the club have set up to raise £100,000 towards the cost of building the track and field facility at Tavistock College.

The main race also incorporates the Ross Shield, a hotly contested team challenge for the oldest road running trophy in Devon. Tavistock AC are hoping to field their strongest men's team so there will be an added spectacle as the club try to regain a trophy they won a few years ago.

Also part of the event is the fun run, this year sponsored by Tavistock Town Council. There are no limits to the entries here and the club are hoping that over 200 will flock to that. Entry fee for the 1.5 mile run across Whitchurch Down is £3. Entrants should get there by 11am to register.
