OPENERS Dhanjal and skipper Chidzoy started brightly for Tavistock with some solid batting which pushed the score along at a good pace. Launceston's Coupe (2-30) was dangerous from the 'river end', extracting lively movement out of the drying wicket.
With the loss of Chidzoy to Coupe the Tavistock alarm bells were ringing but Dhanjal found good support from Ken Coe and Mike Lee (20) enabling him to post another half century. Even when Dhanjal was run out on 64 by some slick Launceston fielding, the Tavistock middle order continued to push the score along.
Colts Goldstone and Huish punished the Launceston second string bowling attack. A superb 40 from Goldstone turned what would have been a reasonable Tavistock total into a good one, as they progressed to 227 all out.
Launceston in reply were right up with the run rate for the first 10 overs as Baker and Hake put on a good opening partnership. A good controlled tight line and length from the opening Tavistock attack of Will Smith and Folley (2-20) eventually paid dividends as Folley trapped Baker and then Wilton to put a break on the Launceston run rate.
Goldstone and Ben Crowl (2-26) continued the good work to pressure Launceston with some accurate bowling resulting in a couple of wickets each. Support to the Tavistock bowlers also came in the form of some good fielding with Hutchins (2), Huish, Lee and Goldstone all taking good catches.
Hake for Launceston resisted with a 42 but with his eventual fall to Goldstone (2-21) it was clear that Launceston were not going to reach the total. Double figure scores for Ferrett and Parsons added respectability to the Launceston score as the innings petered out on 148 for 8.
This was a much better all round batting display from Tavistock with several batsmen contributing, to back up another tight bowling display.
This week Tavistock entertain St Stephens at Kelly College 2pm start.
