AFTER two excellent home results against touring opposition, Tavistock RFC U15s players and parents made the journey across the English Channel to Brittany to play their first matches against European opponents and came away with two resounding victories. Against Lannion the visitors carried their form from the previous weeks successful West Devon Sevens into the match and came away with a resounding 64-0 victory. Early forward pressure enabled Bob Finbow to rumble over for the first try and following a tap penalty drove over for his second. The next came after the ball was worked through the backs for winger Dan Oner to touch down. Jack Bond was next to score showing an explosive burst of pace to outstrip the defence. Fly half Phil Snell touched down under the posts after a weaving run through the defence. A stolen lineout ball enabled Tom Rickard to burst through for the next try and a pickup by Sam Lindsey on halfway saw him go clear for try number seven. Dan Oner was next to show his pace and power to run in the next. A quick tap penalty enabled Rufus Gould to touchdown in the corner and Jack Bond ran in the final try with a run from his own 22. The following day's match against Quinton was somewhat tougher with the hosts fielding several older players, however Tavistock ran out winners by 34-10. Early pressure saw the home team break through to score. This seemed to galvanise Tavistock into action and Tom Rickard levelled the scores. Dan Oner ran in the next following a weaving run by Tom Thursby. A tap penalty enabled Phil Snell to run in the next and number eight Tom Rickard touched down after a textbook pick up and run. Jack Bond touched down after a run from inside his own half. Quinton were not to be denied another score and after being held twice over the line, they managed to get the ball down at the third attempt. Jack Bond ran in the next try and the final score came from Elliot Northmore after being set up by George Rogers.
