A TAVISTOCK woman was surrounded by family and friends last Saturday (November 6) in celebration of her 100th birthday.
Renee Carey, who lives at Parkwood Court in Tavistock, enjoyed a special birthday feast, also attended by Tavistock Mayor Philip Sanders and consort Jan Smallacombe.
Renee was born in London on November 3, 1917. After she married Alan Carey in March 1940, the pair moved to Cambridge. Alan worked for the BOAC (British Overseas Airways Corporation) which meant they travelled to many places overseas, including Brazil, Canada, Iran and Sri Lanka. Between tours, Alan and Renee would return to Croydon.
The pair had two daughters, Sue Deverill, born in 1944 in Cambridge, and Fiona Tolley, born in 1949 in Brazil. Fiona unfortunately passed away in 2016.
Renee and Alan moved to Mary Tavy when Alan retired in 1975. Alan died in 2003, after which Renee moved to Parkwood Court.
Renee was joined at the party by her daughter Sue and son-in-law Bryan Deverill, son-in-law Chris Tolley, grandson Paul Deverill and his wife Lucy, and her two great grandchildren Lottie Deverill, 12, and Ben Deverill, 10.
