A ROUTINE house tidy for a Tavistock woman resulted in an emergency call to the Royal Navy Bomb Disposal team last Saturday morning.
A resident of Greenlands was cleaning a bedroom drawer when she stumbled across a hand grenade and a live bullet which had been left by a former partner, unbeknown to her.
‘It was terrifying,’ she said. She immediately called the emergency services — and the Royal Navy bomb disposal squad was dispatched.
‘The bomb disposal team was convinced it was live until they unscrewed it and said the detonator had already been removed — that was a frightening moment.’
