A WELCOMING party gathered on Bedford Square in Tavistock on Saturday to congratulate the ‘Rowing Marine’ Lee Spencer on his return from his record-breaking row across the Atlantic.
A ‘question and answer’ event was held in the Square, organised by the Royal Marine Association (RMA), for people to find out more about Lee’s achievement, becoming the first physically disabled person to row solo and unsupported from mainland Europe to South America. Horrabridge resident Lee smashed the previous, able-bodied record while raising money for the Royal Marines Charity and the Endeavour Fund. Local RMA member and organiser of the event Yorkie Malone is pictured here presenting a gift to Lee with other members looking on.
