Cornwall and Devon League Tavistock 42 Wellington 3 TAVISTOCK avenged their defeat earlier in the season with a six try demolition of Wellington at Sandy Park on Saturday. Coach Steve Rush must have been pleased with the manner of the victory with the forwards dominating, the backs running some good lines and the Tavistock defence not conceding a try. If there was one criticism of Tavistock's performance it's that the score should have been more as a number of try scoring opportunities were wasted when the last pass went astray. Tavistock opened with a bang and immediately pinned Wellington in their own half. Number eight Jake Phillips made large inroads into the Wellington 22 and forced Wellington into conceding a penalty. Tavistock took the penalty quickly and scrum half Lee Greatrex fed second row Andy Hunt who bulldozed over for a try. Fly half Doug Lloyd then scored a superb individual try wide on the left after a dazzling run. Jake Phillips was driven over the Wellington line by his fellow forwards for a try and scrum half Lee Greatrex also grabbed a try after the forwards had won a scrum against the Wellington put in. Full back Josh Sutton converted two of the tries and a penalty to take Tavistock to 27 points at the break. Wellington's only answer was a penalty goal from Matt Parsons. The second half started well for the home side. They attacked along the left and Doug Lloyd provided centre Duncan Law with the inside pass for Duncan to dive flamboyantly under the posts to score. Wellington came back at Tavistock and put its defence under pressure; this was absorbed and after breaking out of defence skipper Paul Greenhill ran in the final score. Josh Sutton converted one try and a penalty to complete the scoring. This victory sees Tavistock leapfrog Wellington into fourth place in the league and are now only two points behind leaders Paignton. l On Boxing Day the Captain's XV takes on the Chairman's XV in the annual fixture when everyone is welcome. Kick off is at 11 am. On December 30 Tavistock travel to Paignton to play their often delayed Devon Cup first round match.
