Thorverton v
TAVISTOCK first XI travelled to Thorverton on the back of two consecutive league victories.
The home side won the toss and chose to bat on a good looking wicket. Chris Hutchins removed opener Fury with the fourth ball of the game bringing the overseas player Charlton to the crease who constructed an excellent partnership of 132 with Fielder (47) who was eventually dismissed by Sean Cleave.
Some good bowling changes lowered the run rate and Charlton was eventually caught for an excellent 88 by Ian Gray off the bowling of Shaun Daymond (2-45).
Bowlers Andy Gauler (2-16) and Hutchins (4-48) cleared up the lower order backed up in the field by Gray in particular with three excellent catches as Thorverton posted 227-9.
After tea Josh Stephens and Gray set about chasing the total and pushed the score to 57 before Gray departed for 28. Stephens (14) soon followed bringing Daymond to the crease to join new batsman Will Simpson, the pair were looking well set until Daymond guided to gully and Simpson soon edged behind for a well-constructed 32.
Captain Dave Manning was joined at the crease by Aaron Churchill who soon ran his captain out, but karma struck when Churchill sprained his ankle and looked up to see Manning returning to the pitch as his runner!
Wickets then fell at regular intervals forcing Tavistock to shut up shop and play out for the draw. Tavistock eventually finished on 181-9 and secured 10 points to take them to the top of the league.
