A LARGE number of Tavistock Swimming Club's members took part in the City of Plymouth annual swim meet recently, bringing home many medals.

Jake France was placed fourth in the 200m breaststroke and fifth in the 200m freestyle and finished in sixth place in the nine year olds boys BAGCAT (British Age Group Categories) awards.

Ten year old Caitlin Chapman achieved fifth place in the girls BAGCAT awards, having gained a second place in the 100m butterfly, third places in the 100m backstroke and 200m butterfly, fourth places in the 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle and fifth in 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

Keeping up with Caitlin was Emily Attfield (also ten years) who finished in sixth place in the BAGCAT awards, gaining third place in 400m freestyle and 800m freestyle, fourth in 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle and fifth in the 200m breaststroke. Jordan Channon, 11, won the 1,500m freestyle amd was second in 100m individual medley and 200m individual medley, third in 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle and fifth in 100m backstroke. Jordan also took fifth place in the BAGCAT awards. James Anderson (11) was fourth place in 100m breaststroke.

Three 12 year old boys competed. Kieran Rookes gained first place in 100m freestyle, second in 100m individual medley, third in 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke, fourth in 100m backstroke and fifth in 400m freestyle, taking home second place in the BAGCAT awards. Cameron McGurk won the 100m individual medley and gained third places in 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and 200m individual medley. Harry Thompson finished fifth in 100m breaststroke and eighth in both 100m individual medley and 200m freestyle.

Three 13 year old girls took part in the competition. Harriet Edwards finished first in 200m breaststroke, second in 400m freestyle, third in 50m breaststroke and fourth in both 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley. She won fifth place in the BAGCAT awards. Beth Merriott came first in 200m breaststroke, second in 100m breaststroke, third in 400m freestyle and fourth in both 50m breaststroke and 800m freestyle, taking sixth place in the BAGCAT awards. Sophie Anderson finished in fifth place in the 50m freestyle.

In the 14 year age group, Rhys Merriott came first in the 1,500m freestyle, second in the 50m breaststroke, third in 50m backstroke and fifth in both 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle, taking fifth place in the BAGCAT awards, whilst Kameron Brimble came fifth in both the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley, gaining sixth place in the BAGCAT awards. Ella Waddington finished third in both the 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke. Alexandra Stoecker finished first in 400m freestyle, second in 200m breaststroke, third in 200m individual medley and fifth in 50m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

Matt Edwards (15) had an excellent meet, gaining first places in all his races — 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m individual medley, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle and 1,500m freestyle. He also came sixth in the 100m freestyle championship final. Nathaniel Rookes (16) gained first places in 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, second places in 100m backstroke, 100m individual medley and 400m freestyle, third place in the 200m backstroke. He also came fourth in the 100m breaststroke championship final.

Club captain Ross Williams, 18. won both the 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly races and took first in the 100m butterfly championship final. He finished fifth in both the 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley.
