FOURTEEN younger members of Tavistock Swimming Club took part in the Devon ASA Junior Sprint Gala at Central Park in Plymouth.
This event consists of a 50 metre swim in each of the four strokes. The results are then combined towards the BAGCAT (British Age Group Category) awards.
For the girls, Caitlin Chapman, aged 10, swam to a ninth place in the breaststroke and Alexandra Stoecker, 13, gained fourth place in the breaststroke, sixth in the freestyle, eighth in the butterfly and tenth in the backstroke — earning her an overall sixth place in her BAGCAT group.
Several 11 year old boys took part. Harry Thompson achieved a second place in the freestyle, third in the breaststroke, sixth in the butterfly and seventh in the backstroke, coming fourth overall. Matthew Adams came third in the butterfly, fifth in the freestyle, seventh in the breaststroke and eighth in the backstroke, achieving an overall third place. Pete Jarman was placed ninth in the breaststroke.
In the 12 year boys' competition, Kieran Rookes secured a first place in the breaststroke, third in the freestyle, fourth in the backstroke and eighth in the butterfly. This resulted in a second place overall in the BAGCAT ratings.
Kameron Brimble, aged 13, swam to a third place in the butterfly, fifth in the freestyle and sixth places in both the breaststroke and backstroke, coming sixth overall. Rhys Merriott, 13, gained consistent ninth places in each stroke earning him tenth place overall. Matt Edwards, 14 years, gained third places in both the butterfly and freestyle and a fifth place in the backstroke, coming sixth overall.
Also taking part were James Anderson, aged 11, and Katie Stephens, Harriet Edwards, Beth Merriott and Sophie Anderson (all aged 12).
Well done to the swimmers for their excellent effort and results.
