MEMBERS of the South West branch of a charity that supports young people with upper limb differences were treated to a day out at the Eden Project recently, thanks to shoppers in Tavistock.

Reach Charity South West was part of the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme in the Tavistock store at the end of last year. The scheme sees shoppers receive tokens when they visit the checkout with which they are able to vote for one of three charities to receive a share of the money raised from the sale of carrier bags.

A spokesperson for the charity said: ‘As Reach receives no government or core funding, every penny we allocate to supporting our children and families is raised by volunteers or through donations such as Tesco’s and their customers’ generosity.

‘Coinciding with the start of the Easter holidays, 35 members met up on a sunny morning at Eden. The Eden Project is the most wonderful environment and catered for all ages, from Easter egg hunts and welly wanging, to the invisible world’s exhibition and the spectacular biomes — we all had plenty to take in. We hired a room and enjoyed a fabulous buffet lunch together — connecting families is a vital part of Reach’s work and the bonds this creates is priceless.

‘Kindness was extended even further as the St Austell Coop branch donated Fairtrade Easter eggs for the children who attended. A wonderful time was had by all!’
