THIS match on Saturday March 23, Tavistock's last league match, was important for both teams as a win for Tavistock would mean that they would stay in the league and a win for Plymouth meant they would win the league.
The first goal of the match was awarded to Plymouth after the ball deflected off a Tavistock player's stick into the back of the net.
Not to be undermined, Tavistock saw the gaps from Plymouth and Sue Gawman, Judy Smallacombe, Caroline Ellis and Donna Smith worked the ball up the pitch and allowed Gawman to push it past the keeper.
With ten minutes left in the first half, Tavistock sat in defence with Babs Horton, Sue Hornby and Emma Bowden making excellent tackles and clearances,
Hornby and Bowden marked up key players which made the job of defence easier.
The second half saw excellent hockey and Tavistock appeared to have the edge.
Lisa Hogan and Laura Armstrong as wing players made excellent crosses into the D, which Gawman got on the end of to score her second.
Tavistock then got a decent break through the midfield of Becky Hutton and Sue Hornby.
Tavistock were excited at the thought of winning but maintained their composure and quick thinking.
Captain Dunn was delighted at the result as the skill level of Tavistock was high throughout the match and everyone gave 100% effort and determination.
The team finish fourth in the league, only four points behind Plymouth who are moving up.
Tavistock expressed thanks to the Lopes Arms for their continued support and team teas during the season.
