Tavistock 1
Penzance 0
Top of the table Penzance came ready to reinforce their six point lead in the league, but a storming performance by Tavistock denied them.
In the first half sustained pressure from Phil Edwards and Nick Aveyard through midfield set up a number of chances. Finally after 20 minutes Ricky Bellard flicked in off a short corner for a well-deserved lead.
Penzance came back with aggression but with little structure to their efforts.
Strong defence in the middle by Kevin Lethbridge and shrewd interceptions by Brian Rodda and Bob Cowan resisted pressure from Penzance.
The second half started with little pattern from both sides but Tavistock established themselves to deny Penzance many opportunities.
At the other end Tavistock came close with repeated short corners and should have finished by a clearer margin.
This win puts Tavistock second in the league — a great effort.
Tavistock 2nds 1
Bodmin 2nds 3
TAVISTOCK Seconds hockey team travelled to Bodmin suffering from a shortage of forwards, a problem that arose earlier in the season. Wingers Jones and Newman both had good games but found it hard to get effective crosses in.
In midfield, Rowe had another excellent game and the defence played well with Glanville, unaccustomed to right back, playing competently.
Bodmin opened the scoring with a well taken goal by their unmarked right wing and followed up with a second from a short corner.
At half time, Young and Newman Snr swapped over, with Newman moving forward to tighten up the centre of the field.
Tavistock attacked more confidently. Young, taking the ball at a short corner, passed to Moyse, who normally plays in goal. Moyse coolly put the ball into the net to score his first ever goal.
Tavistock began to feel they could salvage a point and all pushed up into attack allowing Bodmin to score their final goal on the break.
