Exeter University D 3

Tavistock 2

THE first half started with lots of pressure from the home team and despite a few saves and strong defence, Tavistock conceded a goal from a short corner. Exeter, second in the league, continued strong, playing a tight passing play and keeping good possession.

The defense for Tavistock of Wood, R Carr, George and Edwards, stopped countless attacks from Exeter's forwards; Tavistock keeper Mingo scuppered Exeters best chances and it was not until towards the end of the half the visitors conceded a goal from open play. Just before half time Exeter had a man yellow-carded.

Tavistock started the second half with a man advantage and applied pressure of their own. Midfielders Marchant pushed up the field and were rewarded with a short corner. Cowen injected to Simon Marchant, who stopped for Lovett, who passed to Paul Marchant to flick by the University keeper.

After another spell of good play, Collins dribbled the ball past Exeter's defence and then passed their sprawling keeper, only to hit the ball a few metres wide of the open goal.

Exeter returned to full strength and scored again from a short corner floor level flick. More good passing from Tavistock's midfield including Unwin and B Carr brought about another short corner which the Univeritys defence broke down, but P Marchant regained possession and put a reverse stick strike past the keeper.

Despite the defeat Tavistock can hold their heads high following a great performance on an away trip. Special mention to new player Croft who applied himself well in both defence and offence.
