Bodmin 4 Tavistock 1st 4 TAVISTOCK hockey team travelled away to Bodmin, who are a fiery team with a lot of skill and doing well in the table. The visiting side came out all guns blazing and penetrating the Bodmin D from the start; this led to numerous chances for Tavistock but the home goalkeeper pulled off some great saves. The first goal of the game fell to Tavistock from their first short corner when Vinson took the ball wide of the Bodmin defence and then slotted the ball into the bottom corner off his reverse side to give Tavistock the lead. This boosted Tavistock who continued to play excellent hockey with the midfield pair of Honey and Manley working hard in the middle to win much needed ball for the strikers. A second goal came soon from another short corner by Vinson. Soon after Honey took a strike at goal that was saved by the home keeper. A third goal was soon to follow from Vinson who cleverly deflected a hit into the D into the goal to make up his hat-trick. Tavistock were now in full control of the game and looking confident, which showed in another goal from a sublime slip pass from Cooley to leave Rose open at the top of the D which he smashed into the bottom corner giving Tavistock a 4-0 lead. However just before the half time whistle Bodmin came back with a nicely worked goal to give them a glimmer of hope for the second half. The second half came and Tavistock knew they must control the game from the start but Bodmin came back hard and created many chances in front of goal. Sloppy marking by the home side led to Bodmin's second goal. Further chances fell to the visitors from which they punished Tavistock with a third goal. With the score now at 4-3 and with 15 minutes to play it was looking like a huge task for Tavistock to keep hold of the game. However Tavistock continued to battle hard in the midfield and work the ball back up to the Bodmin end of the pitch; this was not to be enough as with only four minutes to go Bodmin scored their fourth goal to equalise leaving the final score at 4-4. This result still leaves Tavistock sitting at second place bidding for promotion but with three games still left a tough challenge lies ahead.
