THE Lions Club of Tavistock has made a donation of £975 to Derriford Hospital’s children’s ward.

The club had very successful bucket collections over the Christmas period, particularly in Bedford Square, with Father Christmas on his new sleigh helping to raise a total of £2,400 for local charities.

The Lions have already given £1,200 to the New Tavistock Youth Cafe and £225 was used to buy a TV/DVD unit, through Towls of Tavistock, for the treatment room in the children’s ward at Derriford Hospital.

On a recent visit to the hospital, a cheque for £975 was presented to Sue Rodgers, the play specialist team leader and Children’s Happy Hospital fundraising coordinator, who expressed her grateful thanks for the donation. The money has been used to buy new sensory equipment as well as DVDs for the new TV/DVD unit which has been a great hit with children undergoing treatment.
