Newquay ladies 2

TAVISTOCK ladies knew that they had a tough hockey match against top of the table Newquay and it was a fast paced game.

The home side held strong in defence with some excellent goal keeping from Els Mills Hicks who stepped into the role as goal keeper. There was strong defensive play between Boulle, Dunn and Passmore with Stapleton playing as sweeper linking into midfield.

Newquay were first to score, although Tavistock fought hard to equalise with a goal from open play by Sue Gawman to bring it level at 1-1 at half time. Gawman kept her width on the left wing during the game, working well with Armstrong, and the forwards. White and McClumpha built up some strong attacks on the right hand side, pushing up play to Gasper, Eadie and Killingbeck.

Tavistock had some missed opportunities across their attacking goal line, but they could not quite find the finishing form. After holding Newquay out for the majority of the second half, it was Newquay that scored a goal in the last 10 minutes which Tavistock could not recover from. This was a strong performance from Tavistock and the team battled hard from start to finish.

BRIDGWATER were an aggressive team and Tavistock were unable to break down the attack from the visitors.

Although just 1-0 at half time, the result of double header showed as the score line crept towards 4-0 to Bridgwater at full time. This was a disappointment for Tavistock who had a good structure in place, but their defence were under heavy pressure, and could not match the goals needed to keep up with the score line despite good efforts and plenty of attacking play.
