TAVISTOCK entertained the Tamar Cavaliers at the Ring, Whitchurch Down, on Sunday in this annual cup played in honour of former Tavistock skipper Jack Davey. Cavaliers decided to bat on a very slow wicket with Searle and Lambert putting on 104 for the first wicket. A good middle innings knock by Harry Geering of 54 took the total past 200. The best of the home side?s bowlers was young James McGahey with 3-31, including that of top scorer Searle with 61. Home captain Stuart Munday never saw a problem getting the runs. Unfortunately the first four Tavistock batsmen got themselves out to bad shots. Ian Gray with 37, John McGahey on 23 and Mark Webber with 27 all did well, but it left Brett Thomas not out on 25 running out of partners. Overall this was a well deserved win for Tamar Cavaliers and skipper Gordon Littlejohns ? whose side batted and bowled better to take the trophy. The cup is on honour of Jack Davey who played for and captained Tavistock after a successful first class professional career with Gloucestershire.
