A CHARITY golf day has helped to raise thousands for the Guide Dogs charity.
The event at Tavistock Golf Club last Wednesday (July 26) saw 120 golfers battle changeable conditions to generate much appreciated funds for the national association.
The organisers of the event, the Golfers Guide Dog Society, also held a raffle and secret auction to boost funds further.
For the last five years, the Golfers Guide Dog Society has organised golf days at Tavistock, Stover Golf Club and Trerose Golf Club. At the end of the day, members of the society presented a cheque for £3,000 to Jean Green, a volunteer for the Tavistock and District branch of Guide Dogs.
They were joined by Finn and Betty, the two puppies currently going through their guide dog training and being sponsored by the Golfers Guide Dog Society.
The chairman of the Golfers Guide Dog Society, Roger Tucker, said: ‘We have had an excellent day. The weather could have been better — it was awful in the morning, but we still had a great number of players turn out to take part.
‘It is all about the charity, and it is very rewarding to see Finn and Betty in the flesh and see where this money is going.’
Mr Tucker, Vic Eastwood, John White and Ian Hendry from the Golfers Guide Dog Society expressed their thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the day a big success.
