A SUM of £11,600 raised throughout the year at Tavistock Golf Club has been split between charities The Devon Air Ambulance and the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund.
The beneficiaries were chosen by captains Nigel Doidge and Marian Stenhouse.
At the members’ annual cocktail party Nigel said: I would like to thank the generosity of members and to all those who have helped in raising this amount.
‘I would particularly like to thank Phil and Sue Gawman who, every year, donate to our charities, money raised from their Invitation Charity Day held at Tavistock.
‘The club is just one of the charities that benefited from the £14,000 that was raised, receiving a very generous donation of £4.000.’
Nigel also took the opportunity to thank staff and members for their help in making his year as captain an enjoyable one.
Netty Parker received the £5,800 cheque on behalf of the Devon Air Ambulance. She thanked members for their generosity and said that, annually, it took £5-million pounds to keep the two air ambulances in the air so that this contribution was most welcome.
Ladies’ captain Marian Stenhouse told members that the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund was, for personal reasons, a charity very close to her heart. ‘Like Nigel I would like to take the opportunity to thank the members and staff for their help during the year and my special thanks to the ladies and the ladies’ committee, she said.
‘Also I would like to add my grateful thanks to Phil and Sue Gawman for their very generous donation to our charities.’
Sue Rodgers representing the Children’s Happy Hospital Fund (Derriford Hospital) told members that its aim was to make a difference to all young patients, their families and carers, both in hospital and at home.
She said: ‘Staff work hard to help and support youngsters and their families but there is always more that can be done. I am delighted to receive this most welcome and generous cheque and I assure you that every penny will be well spent.’
