ST Luke’s Hospice and Marie Curie have shared funds totalling more than £12,000 raised during Tavistock Golf Club’s captains year of office.
At a well attended presentation event last Friday 2019 captain Barry Shipton thanked members for all their efforts and support in raising the money during the past year.
Endorsing his remarks lady captain Fran Horton said: ‘At the beginning of last year I never imagined that we would raise such an incredible amount.
‘The money came from all sections of the club, from golfing events to cycling in the Dartmoor Classic when three members took part in this gruelling event and raised £3,200. My huge, huge thanks to you all’.
Peter Ward, community fundraiser for St Luke’s Hospice, received a cheque of £6,071 on behalf of the Hospice. He thanked members for this incredible amount of money which would help continue the work of the hospice.
‘I also checked the hospice records for the last 10 years and I discovered that over this period St Luke’s had received more than £29.500 from the golf club,’ he said. ‘Not every year were we recipients of donations so, obviously, other charities benefited from the club’s generosity. Thank you Tavistock Golf Club.’
Accepting the £6,071 cheque for Marie Curie community fundraiser Lauren Peters told members that the money the club had raised would stay in the county.
‘There are 54 nurses in Devon providing hours of care to patients and help and support to their families. We are so very grateful to members of this club for this amazing amount of money — thank you for all your efforts.’
