Cornwall and Devon league Tavistock RFC 44 Honiton RFC 3 TAVISTOCK completed a comfortable win over a limited Honiton side at Sandy Park on Saturday. Tavistock totally dominated the first half which end 31-3 at half time but were unable to continue the scoring in the second half and the anticipated rout did not materialise. Tavistock took play to the visitors from the start and from a forward drive, which was halted just short of the posts, player coach Steve Rush made a few additional yards allowing Alex Moy to scamper over on the right. The second Tavistock score of the half came from broken play. Number eight Jake Phillips received the ball 30 metres out and blasted his way through the Honiton defence to score. At this stage Honiton forced their way into the Tavistock half and managed to get onto the scoreboard with a penalty goal from Nick Gilbert. Tavistock hit back immediately and David Goodspeed crossed for a try, Alex Moy grabbed his second by finishing off an excellent three quarter move as he raced along the right wing to score. The last try of the half came from winger Joe Lane. Gareth Lovell kicked three conversions to boost the scoreline. After half time Tavistock replaced Chris Johns with the much travelled Darren Cole, who had just returned to Tavistock from Honiton and with his first touch of the ball Darren rounded off an excellent move with a try on the left. Honiton got themselves back into the game with their far bigger forwards controlling the ball to pin Tavistock deep in their own territory for long periods of time. However, the Tavistock defence held firm and with a rare piece of clean possession they worked winger Ben Neale free on the right to scorch in for an excellent try. Gareth Lovell added a conversion goal to complete the scoring. l This Saturday Tavistock travel to Cullompton, kick off 3pm, for their final Cornwall and Devon league of this season knowing that whatever happens they will be third in the league.
