Tavistock Ladies 5

Okehampton Columbines 1

THIS was a crucial game ? Okehampton top of the league with Tavistock a close second.

The game opened with both teams making good tackles and using excellent passes to create attacks. Sue Gawman worked hard on the right and accompanied Emma Bowden and Laura Armstrong in making strong crosses into the D.

The midfield of Kath Collar, Susannah Harland and Sue Hornby prevented Okehampton from breaking through and Sue Cork was always free ready for action in the D.

The first goal came from a superb strike from Collar who lifted the ball into the goalmouth way over the keeper?s head and tucked it into the top corner of the net.

With increased effort it was not long before Sue Cork slotted the ball past the keeper after Becky Hutton worked to keep it in the D.

Despite the good scoreline Tavistock knew nothing was for certain and came out even stronger in the second half. The odd time Okehampton did break through keeper Rebecca Creasy made some excellent saves which demonstrated that Tavistock had full control.

Steff Mills and Fiona Dunn worked well in timing their tackles and much to the opposition?s annoyance could not get through or past these two strong defenders.

Cork scored the third goal as she struck a powerful ball from the edge of the D from an awkward angle.

Bowden, Dunn and Gawman made good triangular passes which were released to Armstrong who managed to put another goal past the keeper.

Armstrong was definitely on form and despite being manoeuvred all over the pitch by the opposition was able to run in on the goalkeeper and be a real threat.

Dunn had a free run up the pitch and despite numerous players was able to outrun them all on the pitch. It was unfortunate she was tripped by the opposition as she was entering the D. A short corner was awarded and after some passing, Gawman scored the fifth goal for Tavistock.

Columbines began to raise their game towards the end of the match and scored a consolation goal, but it was a case of too little too late.

Player of the match : Sue Cork.

This week Tavistock are home to Falmouth with a 12.30pm push back.

Bude Ladies 4

Tavistock Ladies Seconds 5

TAVISTOCK travelled to Bude on Sunday for their first league game since the Christmas break.

There was good attacking from both teams, then Bude had a quick ball though and keeper Viggers just could not keep it out, having three Bude players on her. They then scored another in the left corner.

There was some good passing on the forward line between Gill Court, Sarah Barrett and Sarah Court and feeding from Lisa and Fiona in midfield. Barrett ran up the wing and crossed the ball to the top of the D. Honey finished it from there.

Bude made a few breaks and one resulted in a scrappy goal.

The second half started with Tavistock showing some good passing. But Bude sneaked a stroke under a Tavistock player into the back of the net.

The midfield pushed up and Gill Court had a brilliant pass and finished it well, with the score at 4-3 to Bude.

Tavistock battled on and Lisa Butler pulled off a wonderful shot to level it. A lovely ball from Kerry Sloman saw Barrett take it up the line and pas across the D to Honey who scored a cracker of a goal.

Player of the match: Sarah Barrett.
