FIREFIGHTERS from Tavistock were part of a ten strong relief team at a major fire in North Devon last week. Crews from all over the county attended the scene just before 7pm on Wednesday, August 9 which involved a derelict hotel on Fore Street in Ilfracombe. The fire affected all six floors of the building, and three adjoining properties. Firefighters used eight breathing apparatus wearers, three main jets, three hose-reel jets, two ground monitors and two aerial ladder pumps to tackle the blaze. On Thursday, August 10 the fire was under control, but the hotel had suffered 100% damage.
