Totnes RFC Colts 15
Tavistock RFC Colts 22
TAVISTOCK's first league game of the season was one for the forwards with all three tries going to them while all of the Totnes points came from penalty kicks as the Tavistock defence gave hardly any try scoring opportunities.
Two early long range penalties enabled the home side to take a six point lead. Tavistock eventually got some possession and a series of drives saw them get to within five metres of the line.
Tavistock won the resulting lineout and quick ball from Niall Murphy, who had a superb game, enabled Josh Leeson to feed Mark Friend who powered over in the corner.
The home side came back but good clearing up by George Rogers and Josh Leeson touch kicking kept them at bay. However, two more penalties enabled the home side to take a seven point lead. A superb low kick by Leeson resulted in a lineout five metres out from which Tavistock gained possession and after several drives went over after Murphy and Leeson worked the ball to Joe Hair to power over for the try. Jez Cramoyson put the conversion over to level the scores.
Totnes hit back and another penalty saw them regain the lead. After a series of scrums, a ruck 10 metres out formed and Leeson fed Dan Oner who went over for the try. Cramoyson converted. Shortly after, the lead was further increased when Cramoyson stroked over a penalty. Totnes tried to find a way back into the game and a break up the wing was foiled by a superb tackle from Rob Hockin.
