TAVISTOCK played host to Plympton 3rds on a very damp day. Plympton won the toss and elected to bowl first. Tavistock openers P Strawbridge and J McGahey looked to punish any loose bowling and with this they were rocketing along at 5 runs per over until a heavy shower forced everyone off and in doing so lost both innings an over each . It also appeared to break McGahey?s concentration as shortly after play restarted he gave Crocker a catching practice shot behind square leg ? out for a fine 38. This broke the opening partnership which contributed 94 runs. S Johns strode to the wicket and like B Thomas and M Webber did not stay too long. So P Stevens came out to bat and with a great shot selection started to dismantle the bowling along with Strawbridge. This partnership was flourishing until Strawbridge was magnificently caught by M Crocker for a superb 81. Old stager D Jeffery came in and offered support to Stevens and between them rattled off 95 in the last 12 overs, with both batsmen undefeated, Stevens scoring a blistering 86 off 57 balls and Jeffery 24 off 25 balls. Then Plympton came to bat. L Baker made the breakthrough having C Dave caught for 5 and continued his good work by claiming P Woodward for 6 and D Hefford for l8. S Gliddon was introduced and got the wicket Tavistock wanted as he had opener C Chapman caught for 21. B Thomas was also recalled and claimed the scalp of M Gregory for a very good 46, Tavistock could not get any more wickets and with Plympton not getting the 170 required for a losing draw Tavistock claimed the win and 18 points towards their promotion drive. Tavistock next play Ipplepen away. Tavistock men of the match: Stevens, Strawbridge, Lee Baker.
