FOR the fourth year in succession members of Tavistock Athletic Club competed in the 2010 Torremolinos half marathon.
The course has become a favorite of the club as the route takes in the old quarter of Torremolinos, the picturesque promenade section featuring many of the resorts finest restaurants then climbing into the olive grove strewn foothills before finishing on a fast downhill section back into the historical centre.
As in previous years the club came away with a fine collection of trophies, recording two first and one second placing. The most prestigious title was won by Jo Meek who was the first female runner home in a magnificent time of 1hr 20mins 52secs.
The trophy for first male 55 was collected by Steve Mullet who finished in a time of 1.25.01 a full nine minutes ahead of his nearest age related competitor.
Tavistock Athletics Club final trophy was won by Martin Thrush who finished second in the Male 45. Tony Symons, paced Martin Thrush to the 14km mark in a quick time before dropping out. Tony went on to second place in his age category.
Chris Eastaugh finished well down on his previous time for the event despite meticulous preparation by hydrating thoroughly with a specially formulated carbohydrate rich, protein drink.
Peter Freedman at just 16 won the Junior ranking event in a superb time of 1hr 12mins 18secs.
TAC's Rupert McWarren and Lloyd Charles also acquitted themselves.
The runners would like to thank their supporters who provided assistance and cheering along the way. John Meek for the photographs, Rebecca Exley-Deane for banners and bag carrying and finally to Nigel Jenkins for general advice about running and Junior coaching in particular.
