IT was bright and breezy on May 18 for the annual 10K race organised by Bideford AC. The flat course attracted more than 400 runners from all over north Devon and Cornwall, with nine from Tavistock AC. completing the course.  With the temperature ideal, several personal bests were achieved, including one for Gavin Punchard  who was first home for the club in 31st place with a time of 38.15.  With consistent training and some hard runs behind them, four ladies were rewarded with PBs: Hazel Walker in 53.02, Marion Playle in 53.40, Rebecca Sargent in 53.43, and Ann Woodhouse in 60.04. Ann was also third in her age group, so, although the last member to complete the course, was the most successful. Other finishers were David Twine, 103rd in 42.26, Tony Shearer 137th in 44.18, just missing a PB, Keith Bowles 217th in 48.47 and Steve John, 290th in 52.52, also a personal best. The road racing season is now in full swing with an amazing variety of events to choose from, as well as several off road and trail runs. If you like running, you are welcome to come to the club whatever your speed. There are five groups, so one should suit you. You can also take part in track and field events in Devon League meetings through the summer. The club meets at 6.15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the classroom beneath the sports hall at Tavistock College.
