Tavistock U14s 6 Southgate U14s 1 THE two unbeaten teams in the Plymouth League were pitted against each other in the quarter final of the cup on Saturday and a close game was expected. After the first few minutes Southgate had shown themselves to be a good footballing team and Tavistock had failed to get into top gear. This was to change quickly as Tavistock scored their first from a pass over the top to Pridham, followed by two from Thompson. Southgate replied straight through a previously tight defence to make it 3-1 but a fantastic cross by Ayres landed in the back of the net for Tavistock?s fourth. In the second half, Southgate made more of a fight of it and were unlucky on a few occasions, thanks to resolute defending by Blatchford, Alford, Wearing, Case and Court. Pridham bagged his second and after after a few ?keep ups? by Case a perfect pass played Doidge in to make the final score 6-1. Man of the match: Thompson. l Next game away to Callington. DJM Raleigh League Cup U14s Chaddlewood Miners 2 Tavistock Thistles 1 FOR the second week in a row Thistles let the lead slip from their grasp after being well on top in the first half. The match started well for Thistles who pushed their defence from the off. Niall Murphy, who has just rejoined Thistles, and Havron making things happen from the start. The defence of Simmons, Argles, Lowther and Northmore looked comfortable and kept Chaddlewood to only one shot in the first half which Snell, standing in for Thistles regular keeper, saved well. Thistles took the lead after Leeson, Lambert and Wearing teamed up to play the ball into the box ? Wearing shot low to beat the keeper on the left hand side. The forwards continued to push at Miners? defence, Newton being brought on to replace Pridham who had taken a knock. The second half started with Thistles slow to get back into a rhythm. Chaddlewood then started to show why they are leading the league table. Thistles became open at the back and the visitors broke through a number of times. Only keeper Snell kept them at bay with good saves. Despite good disciplined play by Thistles, Chaddlewood scored two quick goals. Thistles fought hard for the last 15 minutes but could not find an equaliser. l This Saturday at Lamerton v Plymouth Trophyman.
