Tavistock A 1
Penzance A 2
TAVISTOCK A were unable to take to the pitch last week owing to freezing conditions. The previous week's match at Marjons saw severe weather and one player went down with mild hypothermia after the hard fought and well deserved 2-1 win! So it was with some relief this week that the side stepped out on a relatively mild day and onto a fully defrosted Kelly College pitch.
Penzance 'A' inflicted a crushing defeat in the first match of the year but despite having two regular goal scorers, Adam Holland and Tom Unwin missing on the day, Tavistock fielded a much stronger side than had travelled to Penzance.
Penzance started off showing good composure and distributed the ball effectively, but Tavistock looked the more determined side and started to create space up front. The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes when Tavistock conceded a penalty corner and Penzance scored with a well placed hit. Heads stayed up however and ten minutes later Tavistock earned a penalty corner of their own. Honey capitalised with a perfectly struck ball from the top of the D and the score line was level at half time.
There was everything to play for in the second half, but it was evident that Tavistock were missing Holland as four clear chances flashed across the Penzance goal, needing only a touch or a sweep to finish, but no Tavistock stick got there.
Two deflections were stopped by the keeper, but it was not Tavistock's day and again the side failed to put away the rebounds. This lack of finishing was the deciding factor in the end as Penzance rallied and scored a second goal. With 12 minutes to play, Tavistock pressed forward and created a number of chances, but left themselves exposed at the back. Penzance took their opportunity on the break and put away their third goal to seal the result.
This was a disappointing result for Tavistock 'A' who have made great progress since the start of the season when they conceded 24 goals in their first three games.
