WITH the long-awaited Tavistock skatepark nearly complete, organisers have this week launched a final fundraising campaign to finish the project completely. Richard Porter, chairman of Taviskate which has fought for many years to get the skatepark project off the ground, said phase one of the development in Benson Meadows was now complete, which included the tarmac base, fencing and various pieces of skate equipment. ?However, although phase 2, which provides the remainder of skate equipment to finish the park, is well under way, we are still £10,000 away from our total fundraising target of £73,000 and this must be met by the end of this summer,? said Richard. ?We are therefore racing against time to raise the extra cash and get this facility up and running for the young people of the area to enjoy, before the winter rains set in. ?I?d like to put out a plea to all businesses and organisations in the area, if you think you can help in any way by perhaps sponsoring a piece of equipment, or just via a small donation, we will be extremely grateful.? Richard paid tribute to the skaters and their families who had worked so hard on the project and to the generosity of the town and borough councils, local businesses and other organisations and individuals who had made the park a reality. Anyone who can help Taviskate with sponsorship should call Richard Porter on 07880 946633.
