APPLES were the name of the game in Buckland Monachorum recently as guests enjoyed a charity dinner and auction to celebrate National Apple Day.
The dinner, in aid of the Devon Air Ambulance Appeal, took place at the Drake Manor Inn at Buckland Monachorum.
Celia Stevens, village resident and great grand-daughter of Henry Merriweather, founder of the Bramley Apple, organised the event. She said: 'We raised £525 and I have to say I am very delighted. Everyone was so generous. Mandy the landlady put on the dinner and made everything with apples from the local orchard.
'The whole event was to emphasise the importance of a village pub and the importance of the community, while celebrating the 21st year of National Apple Day.'
