DEVON producers, tired with the quality and cost of food shows in the county, will be hosting their own event in West Devon this weekend while raising money for charity.
Following the success of their last food show, 'Eat the Devon Way' at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton over the May bank holiday, organisers decided to host another one, this time in aid of BBC Radio Devon's Air Ambulance Appeal, and being held at Buckland Abbey this Saturday and Sunday (July 2 and 3).
One of the organisers, Tina Allwork of Hi-T's Fudge, said: 'We are local food producers who got fed up with the quality and cost of food shows we were attending and decided that we could do better.
'So we set about organising a show that would offer a wide range of quality products to the public and at the same time keep costs down for the producers.
'We then got involved with a local charity and turned it into a fundraiser.'
This weekend's event, 'Taste the County', will follow the same format as the previous show, where carefully selected food producers will give customers a large range of locally produced food.
Another of the organisers, David Mudridge from Yarty Valley, said: 'The positive feedback we received at our last event, about the large choice of food has proved to have been popular.
'By limiting the numbers of producers offering the same products we were able to offer a much wider range of quality food.'
The organisers were asked, after the success of Eat the Devon Way, in an interview with David Fitzgerald on BBC Radio Devon, to do another show in aid of the BBC Radio Devon's Air Ambulance Appeal.
The event will be held in the Great Barn and the visitor centre. Jonathan Cummins, from the National Trust, said: 'We are pleased to be hosting a food event at Buckland and the organisers have managed to secure a parking area at the old Yelverton Airfield, to prevent traffic problems accessing the Abbey.'
Entrance to the show will be £2 and under 16s are free. The event will be open from 10.30am to 5pm both days.
