A RETIRED West Devon man has recently joined the volunteer team of a Tavistock-based charity to help sort donations from the public.

Yelverton man Terry Hyde has joined the team at Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) where he will be sorting, researching, preparing and pricing music donations.

Terry worked for many years as the Oxfam area music specialist, based at the book and music shop on North Street Tavistock, before its closure in January.

There he helped build the best performing Oxfam music shop — for its size — in the south west.

Terry said: 'On my dad's last visit to Tavistock about a year before his death, he played —and beat — me at table-tennis at the TASS Anchorage Centre. This is a treasured memory of mine. I am therefore delighted to be able to help maximise TASS income from music donations.

'On my very first day at work at the Anchorage Centre, I spotted among the donations a couple of rare items that I have never seen before.

'One was the Beatles Box — a 1980 set of cassettes that were only available via mail order and which now carries a typical dealer price of about £50.

'The second was a classic 1958 doo-wop single by the Elegants on 78.'

TASS welcomes music donations of all kinds at the Anchorage Centre, and Terry is able to collect large donations by arrangement. Contact TASS on 01822 616958.
