WEST Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox last week stressed the importance of the Tamar Valley Line to residents in the area when he spoke during a debate in the House of Commons . Mr Cox reminded the government there had been an assurance that the line would continue to run eight trains a day ? although First Great Western has proposed removing the early morning train ? and changed the final train of the day to a time which prevents late afternoon commuters from London catching it. Mr Cox said the early morning train was ?crucial? to residents living on the Bere Peninsula. He said: ?The crucial issue regarding the Tamar Valley line is that the eight trains a day that currently run should be retained. ?The connections that can be made using the first morning service mean many people in remote and isolated parts of West Devon can go to work even as far afield as London. If the service is withdrawn, there are those who will be unable to work and may be forced to move.? Mr Cox said he hoped the minister would do all in his power to ensure assurances about the ?vital? services on the line were honoured.
