FORMER railwayman John Snell from Bere Alston will be sharing anecdotes about railway life and telling the story of the Tamar Valley Line on board the 15.25 train from Plymouth this Sunday.
Local historian John, who has published a book of reminiscences entitled Tamar Valley Trains and started his railway career at Calstock station in 1949, worked on the line for many years in the age of steam.
His story will include how the line was built and how it changed through the years.
When John started his railway career, the track from Bere Alston to Gunnislake continued to Kelly Bray and the line between Bere Alston and Plymouth was part of the Southern Railway.
In 1966 trains to Callington ended and in 1968 the main line north of Bere Alston closed, leaving a service between Plymouth and Gunnislake.
John will join the train at Bere Ferrers at 15.46 and the talk will be from there to Gunnislake and back.
Normal fares will apply and no booking is required.
