WEIR Quay Sailing Club members have raised £130 for the RNLI following a talk by Tom Mansell, who told members about the the organisation's search and rescue work and advised on staying safe at sea.

The money raised by the club will towards the annual £140-million that the RNLI spends yearly in saving hundreds of lives on the sea and rivers.

The WQSC February talk will be held at Bere Alston Bowling Club on Wednesday, February 26 at 8pm when members will hear from local couple Jane and Andy Morton, who will give an illustrated account of their circumnavigation of the British Isles by kayak.

There will be a collection for the Merlin Trust, which operates a local centre supporting MS sufferers.

The club also has another talk at the same venue this time on Wednesday, March 26 by David Lomax on 'Sailing in the northern latitudes'.

David and wife Judy are long time Royal Cruising Club members who have edited the RCC cruising guide to Norway.

The sailing club will be holding its annual barn dance on March 8.
