RAISING the dead from the Tudor warship the Mary Rose, is the topic of a talk being held on Monday, July 28. The talk by Dr Ann Stirland will focus on the lives of the soldiers from research of the skeletons on the Mary Rose, about which she has written several articles and books. Dr Stirland is a freelance consultant anthropologist who teaches anthropology to undergraduate and postgraduate students. She lectures to a wide range of audiences about her work and has studied many groups of skeletons, especially from eastern England. She graduated, as a mature student, in archaeology and geology from Leicester University, but received her anthropological training in America. She has also studied a large group of Roman skeletons from Ashton, near Peterborough, for the Northamptonshire Archaeological Unit, as well as lecturing in the United States. The talk will begin at 2pm at The Wharf. • The talk on Waterway Wonders by Richard Thomas on July 14 was a tour of engineering marvels around the waterways system. His talk was greatly appreciated by the audience of 54.
