THE next meeting of the Okehampton Local History Group will be on Wednesday, October 9.

In a change to the previously advertised programme, Dr Nick Atkinson will be speaking about the history of Dartmoor as a national park.

Dr Atkinson was chief executive of the Dartmoor National Park Authority from 1991 to 2008. He lives on a four-hectare holding within the Dartmoor Sensitive Area Scheme on the edge of the moor above South Zeal, so he will bring both a personal and professional perspective to this topic.

The meeting takes place at 7.30pm at the Ockment Centre. Non members are welcome for a fee of £2 to include refreshments.
