AN award-winning novelist will be visiting Tavistock in April to give a talk about the West Country inspirations for his popular novels.

The internationally known author, E V Thompson, has published more than 40 novels and non-fiction books about the West Country, which all combine historical detail and real characters with adventure and romance. He won the PEN MacMillan Prize for his first novel, Chase The Wind.

Mr Thomspon's own life also provided inspiration for his novels as he served in the Royal Navy, was a vice squad police officer in Bristol, worked for British Overseas Airways as a narcotics investigator in Hong Kong, and headed the Department of Civil Aviation Security in the former Rhodesia.

Mr Thompson will be giving the talk at Tavistock Wharf to raise money for ShelterBox and its campaigns in Haiti and Chile, on Thursday April 8 from 2.30pm to 4pm.

Tickets cost £4.50 and will include refreshments.
