MATTHEW Henry, aged 19, and Braden Wren, 16, of Kelly College swim squad were selected this year for the Open Water England Talent Camp, run by the Amateur Swimming Association to encourage swim-mers to take on the mantle of open water swimming.
They were invited to a camp with some of the top open water coaches at Bosworth Water in the Midlands.
The idea of the camp was so that the swimmers could compete in the Midland district open water 1,500m championships.
For Braden this was to be his first venture into open water and an overall sixth place and third in his age group (12-16 years) was very encouraging.
Matthew, who is the ASA two kilometre national champion, found the 1,500m much to his liking and took the title, along with a £50 voucher for a high street shop.
Matthew and Braden are now in strict training, along with other members of the Kelly College swim squad, for the Amateur Swimming Association and Youth National Championships at Ponds Forge ISC in Sheffield at the end of July.
