MEMBERS of the West Devon Green Party travelled to London on Saturday to take part in the UK's biggest ever climate change march, The Wave.
Members Margaret Quinn and Carol Hughes, travelled on the 'Wave Express', a special train laid on by CAFOD, the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development, to take supporters from the South West to the march.
Carol Hughes said: 'Over 100 organisations, as varied as Friends of the Earth, Christian Aid and Women's Institutes, were involved in the march, so we knew there would be a lot of support, but on the day, over 40,000 people joined in to march from Grosvenor Square and encircle the Houses of Parliament.'
The march was timed to coincide with the Copenhagen climate change conference, at which representatives from more than 192 countries debate key issues to combat the effects of global warming.
Carol said: 'It was disappointing that although the South West Wave Express, with seven carriages was full to bursting by the time it reached London, only a few people joined the train at Plymouth. I'm not sure that there was much publicity about the event down here in West Devon.'
More events are planned by the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, and information about them can be found on the http://www.stopclimatechaos">www.stopclimatechaos.
