SHOTOKAN Karate is a Japanese martial art which differs from many westernised versions of karate because it remains deeply rooted in a strong martial arts tradition.
It is more than just the mastering of defensive techniques, the training prepares you mentally as well as physically and teaches what the ancient warriors knew, discipline, confidence and control. Importantly, no contact or grabbing is allowed during training.
Training is suitable for everyone from seven years and above and is a perfect aerobic activity. There are several people within the association who train with discibilities ie. cerebral palsy, missing limbs .
Shotokan classes at Tavistock College take place on Thursdays between 6- 7pm in the gym.
