A NEW weekly jogging group for complete beginners has been started by Tavistock Athletic Club.

The club?s jogging section has been so successful over the past three years, the club has decided to start the new group, which could also be useful training for any ladies entering the Race for Life in Plymouth on June 13.

Organiser Trevor Williams said the group would be for novices who had done no jogging before and those who may have done some and wanted to start again.

?I expect that during the first few Tuesdays there will be more brisk walking than jogging. They will be eased into the running process very gently and everyone?s ability will be taken into account,? he said.

Everyone will be able to go at their own pace, so the group will be suitable for adults of all ages. There will be no necessity to go along every week, although those wishing to improve their fitness will be encouraged to do so and to take other exercise during the week.

?Some people think that the athletic club is just for serious runners, all of whom compete at a high level,? said Mr Williams. ?While we do have members who are very successful, the majority are people of all ages who just enjoy running and jogging in a sociable atmosphere, mainly to keep fit.?

Those who wish can move up into one of the slightly faster jogging groups at any time. The new group will meet on Tuesdays at 6.15pm at Tavistock College and starts on April 20. Turn left at the main car park and meet in the classroom in the car park on the right.
