A PLEA for caution was this week issued after an accident on the A3072 between Hatherleigh and Highampton last Wednesday morning. Firecrews from Hatherleigh and Okehampton were called to the scene of the accident, in which a car had careered off the road and ended up in a ditch. A spokesman for Hatherleigh Fire Station said: ?Once the crew arrived at the scene, the officer in charge assessed the situation. It was clear that only one car was involved, with one female trapped and one child. ?The general public stopped to assist and on our arrival there, had already released the child from the child seat.? The spokesman said the child had been strapped correctly into the seat and sustained no injuries. Firecrews used hydraulic cutting gear to cut off the roof of the vehicle to release the female driver, who had minor injuries. She was treated by ambulance crews on the scene. The incident occurred at around 7.30am ? the road was re-opened at around 8.45am. Hatherleigh?s fire chief said there had been numerous accidents in the same place, including fatalities, and urged drivers to take extra care and drive in accordance with the road conditions and weather.
