TAVISTOCK Athletic Club is pleased and proud that one of their club runner, Peter Freedman, has been selected to compete for Great Britain in the World Dualathlon Championships, to be held in Edinburgh early in September.

Earlier in the year, Pete won the club's half marathon, the Tavy 13 in an outstanding time of 1hour 11minutes 27seconds finishing more than six minutes ahead of the next competitor.

More recently Pete has competed in the French Grand Prix series, and it was as a result of his performance at this event that he was invited to represent his country at the World Championship.

The event runs from of September 3-5, and is set in the grounds of Holyrood Park over one of the most challenging courses ever used for a world championship. Competitors have to undertake a 10 kilometre run followed by a 40k bike ride and a 5k run to finish, all without a break.

Pete has run from an early age, encouraged by his parents, as his father is also a runner. He joined TAC at the age of eight where his talent was nurtured by club coach, Robin Musgrave. He also became an excellent swimmer, competing first for Devon and later for the West Country, and at the age of 12, he put his swimming and running together and became British Biathlon Champion.

Pete went to Tavistock College, and then to Bath University, where he continued to train, competing in his first triathlon at the age of 18.

Due to injury, he has had to give up competitive swimming but is most grateful for the support he has always received from Tavistock Swimming Club. As for his running, that goes from strength to strength, spurred on by TAC's elite runners who supply encouragement and competition! Being able to train on the track at Tavistock College is also a huge advantage.

Sheila Houghton, on behalf of TAC, said: 'Tavistock Athletic Club will be following Pete's progress at the event with interest and pride – and would like to give him our collective support and best wishes.'
